Steven Woodward is CEO of Cloud Perspectives, located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He is a member of the National Institute of Standards for Technology (NIST) cloud computing working groups (under the US Department of Commerce), a leading contributor on carrier, audit, roles, SLA and metrics topic areas. Currently leading the Cloud Carrier and Cloud Audit sub-groups at NIST. Steven is also Director of the Cloud Security Alliance Canadian Chapter. He is an International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Joint Collaboration Activity member under the United Nations helping define and align cloud computing telecommunication models. He is a member of the Cloud Standards Customer Council with the Object Management Group (OMG) and Cloud SLA metrics leader with the TM Forum where he is helping align metrics’ best practices with International Software Measurement Association – International Function Point Users Group (IFPUG). Steven currently serves on the ISO/ IEC committee with IFPUG to mature standards in software metrics. Steven is also serving as a Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance lead on the Shared Services Canada (SSC) Architecture Framework Advisory Committee.
Steven’s consulting and education experiences include all levels of governments, financial institutions, telecommunications companies and providers of ICT solutions; including cloud computing providers.
His speaking engagements in cloud computing have included: Interop, Mobile World Congress, The Cloud Computing Conference of the West Indies, Cloud Standards Customer Council, Brazil Software Measurement Association, Starwest, International Software Measurement Association, DPI, GTEC, CAST, Oil & Gas, CSA Canada Summit and the Canadian Cloud Council conferences. Locations have included: Ottawa, Washington DC, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Orlando, Northern Cyprus, Calgary, Rio De Janeirio, Brasilia, Sao Paulo, Lima, Toronto, Banff and Edmonton.
Steven authored and lead cloud computing best practices and guides with: NIST, ITU-T, TM Forum, ISMA-IFPUG and the OMG.
Steven is known for his logical real-life perspectives that clarify the opportunities and challenges of advanced technologies.
Steven also wrote the chapter on “Cloud Computing Solution Measurement” published in the book “The IFPUG Guide to IT and Software Measurement” by CRC Press Taylor & Francis Group in 2012.
Steven has a security clearance of “Secret Level II” from the Canadian Federal Government and has successfully passed the Bywater ISO 9000 Lead Assessor Quality Assurance Auditing course, which is registered by the National Registration Scheme of Assessors of Quality Systems. Steven is also recognized as an “IFPUG Fellow” for his over 20 years continuous certification as a function point analyst.
